Bell, Ryniker & Letourneau’s practice in this highly specialized
field involves defending lawsuits in federal and state courts,
and representing clients in U.S. Coast Guard, Maritime Administration
and U.S. Customs regulatory matters. The firm’s clients
primarily include vessel owners, charterers, drilling contractors,
oil service companies, offshore construction companies, towing
and salvage companies, Underwriters at Lloyds, American, British,
Scandinavian and German P & I Clubs, marine insurance companies,
underwriters and brokers. The firm handles and tries admiralty
and maritime lawsuits and U.S. Coast Guard administrative matters
throughout the Gulf Coast.
The firm
represents employers and insurers on claims arising under the
Jones Act, the Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act
and the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act. Bell, Ryniker & Letourneau also represents clients involved with the Maritime
Administration and U.S. Coast Guard during investigations and
hearings into marine collisions, fires and explosions.
Bell, Ryniker & Letourneau handles matters arising from oil and hazardous
materials spill incidents, providing expertise regarding the
Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA 90), the Comprehensive Environmental
Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), and the Texas
Oil Spill Prevention and Response Act, among other statutes
and regulations. The firm’s attorneys also have extensive
experience in handling time-sensitive vessel arrest and attachment
issues, and cargo-related casualties on behalf of vessel owners,
charterers and stevedores, including major fires and vessel
capsizings. The firm also represents numerous vessel owners,
insurers and P&I clubs in the handling of personal injury
claims under state, federal and maritime law, as well as wrongful
death claims under state law and the Death on the High Seas
Act (DOHSA).
